The temperature in America is above 37℃ or 97℉ on these days. Sometimes the index jumps from double digits to triple digits in Washington, D.C. Students in Horace Mann Elementary School were learning without a proper air conditioner.
A parent Claire Wilder said, “The fact that they aren’t prepared for these kinds of incidents is a little ridiculous”.
A 5-year-old Luke arrived home from school, whining about the warmth and useless fans who don’t do much in this heat. Parents reported that
“There are so many gaps for basic services like air conditioning not being functional in places like schools, where kids need to learn, teachers need to teach.”
After a week some temporary window air coolers were installed at the school. The hot weather in September creates problems in schools without proper heat management systems.
Schools in Michigan, Wisconsin, New Jersey, Maryland, Ohio, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Massachusetts are fighting against the rising heat.
Reports show in the 1970s school didn’t need cooling systems to learn comfortably, but now due to global warming and climate change, students needs cooling systems.
“Everybody should have air,” a parent told CBS Baltimore. “You have air in your car, air at your job, why not at schools?”
